Nouvel - Barcelona

This hotel was in a perfect location just off Las Ramblas (noisy at night if a balcony room) and a stones throw from Playa Catalunya and the airport bus/tour buses. The breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. Reception manned 24 hours with English speaking staff. Recommended.

We actually stayed at this hotel two different times, in different rooms. It's a great location, just off La Rambla. It has a nice lobby. The staff varied in their helpfulness. The rooms were modest but clean. The beds were basic and very hard.

When we first arrived to Hotel Nouvel we were greeted by a sneaky man who informed us that breakfast was not included in our package and tried to stick my mother and I in a roomm with a single bed. Every request was a chore and was met with great hesitation. One particular young intern, Tiago, was extremely helpful and patient. His work was exceptional. Its ironic that least experienced worker was the most professional. For the last 3 days there were construction men hanging out of our window and we were rudely awaken by drills and other construction related noise. When we complained about that, nothing was done. Overall, the best part of this hotel was its location. Located conveniently next to La Rambla ( a popular street) and walking distance to the theatre and lots of restaurants and shops nearby. This hotel maybe 3 stars, but the lack of accomodation was disgraceful...keep looking.

Located on a tiny street off main thoroughfare. Central, close to public transportation and sights, but quiet. Can eat on site. Hotel offered good dining suggestion. Would stay there again.

Clean, not spacious. Streets can be rowdy at night so expect noise, but not that bad.

Great location, very clean, & QUIET (ask for a quiet room)

Allthough I am recommending this hotel, our recommendation is based upon the fantastic location of the hotel, the helpfulness of the staff, and it was clean. Rooms and bathroom are tight, amenities are practically non-existent, walls as thin as paper, and hallways with no carpet that resound with noise. I had to call the front desk at 2 am to confront the people in the next room to be quiet. The hotel people came up immediately and the noise quieted down, but the walls are like paper. Location is excellent to tour buses, subway, attractions, - the best part of the trip.

Hotel Nouvel is perfectly reasonable considering what other places in the neighborhood ask for. While it was clean, it was incredibly noisey. I woke up many times during the night because I could hear the plumbing in the ceiling, and it constantly sounded like running water. Also, our non-smoking room was very fresh when we first arrived, but the next day after it was cleaned, it wreaked of cigarettes. Not really sure why that happened. There was also no window in the room, so it was very dark and kind of gloomy. I will say that I appreciated their security policies since the area is very busy late at night and there are shady characters on Las Ramblas.

This hotel was in a perfect location and the staff were very helpful. Clean and comfortable, my only issue was the damn jackhammers that started very very early every damn morning while the hotel was having work done on it!!

A fantastic location right in the centre of Barcelona. Room was basic but good - however the only plug sockets are in the bathroom so all charging of electrical items have to be done there and it means trailing cables if you want to leave something on all night. Extra charges made for use of the safe and wireless internet even if you have your own computer which was a little disappointing. The air conditioning was rather feeble considering the outside temperatures. They didn't refresh the glasses during the 5 day stay, which would have been nice. Great bakery across the road for breakfasts. The attached restaurant serves great food but a little pricey compared to other restaurants nearby.

Location is great! Off the main street of Las Ramblas - quiet but among good cafes and pastry shops. Charm of Spanish architecture. The bedroom and bathroom were very large and accomodating with a nice little balcony for fresh air. The air conditioner didn't seem to work, but we never really needed it because the weather was so nice. The one complaint is that the beds were extremely hard. It didn't affect my sleep as we were so exhausted by the end of each site-seeing day. But for for someone who is more sensitive or expecting a plush mattress for comfort, this would not be the place. Of course, it could have just been our room, so it wouldn't hurt to check. Also, there was not a refrigerator or coffee maker in the room.

The hotel's location is ideal for access to the major sights in Barcelona - just off the Rambla. But that's about all. The rooms are small - we're used to that for Europe - clean and functional. But the walls and doors seem paper thin, so you can hear the chatter in the hallways, doors slamming or even the conversation next door!

Right in the heart of old Barcelona and 100 feet off of Las Ramblas, this hotel feels very European...yes, the rooms are small like most European hotel rooms, but the staff was VERY professional and kind. They allowed us a late check-out of 1:00 so we could go explore early morning. Then, they let us store our bags until our cruiseship loaded in late afternoon. OUtstanding service and the hotel was clean, comfortable and truly in the center of everything...without the noise! Right near a metro stop and within walking distance of most of the sites...Sagrada Familia is a metro ride away from everywhere. We'll book here again...fantastic!

Good location to La Rambla. Walls a little thin, so you hear just about anything going on around you. Beds are a little hard. Staff was excellent, very curteous.

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights on a room only basis although you can pay extrs for breakfast. We had clean towels every day which we didn't expect. The hotel is central for everything. We will be going to Barcelona on a regular basis to visit our daughter and will certainly use this hotel again.

More than pleasantly surprised by this gem just of La Ramblas, near tour busses to bring you to all tourist attractions, Barcelona Walks and lots of restaurants&bars. Hotel has classy restaurant aswell.

If you are in Barcelona this isn't a bad place to stay. The location is great but don't expect much for your room. The bathrooms are decent, the beds are terrible, and the air conditioning doesn't really work at all. The front desk is nice, but abrasive. The beds are extremely hard. Stay here for the location, but don't expect much.

Great and I mean great location near all the action and one block from the airport bus! Don't bother to pay 4 times the amount to get a taxi to the airport with a clean and handy airport bus a very short walk from the Nouvel Hotel. Rooms are clean and very small, but a nice bathroom and flat screen TV. Hotel personnel weren't the friendliest, but hey, we weren't there to make friends. Great price from hotels.com...50% off!! Can't beat it!

Staff very helpful on arrival, very close to all tourist attractions and restaurants. Room clean and comfortable.

Walking distance from Plaza Catalunya(Can drag your luggage)Busses from the airport are real cheap, or take a taxi(better to ask first re cost(check taximeter online for estimates). and around the corner is las Ramblas, tourist area, but far enough not to hear the street noise-all we heard was a bit from the next room.We were prepared for pickpockets, - ladies use across body purses as you go sightseeing, saw no problems. There were security people in the Plaza Catalunya who directed us towards the hotel as I showed my printout map. Hotel is older design, what you can expect in the historic area, clean, charming.Bathroom fine! Bed was what can be expected in Europe- firmer , small pillows. Excellent location to walk to the tourist busses in Plaza Catalunya. At front desk English is spoken, day staff very friendly, polite & helpful, especially Roberto & the lady on the same shift. We arrived early so they put our bags in the luggage room so we could go sightseeing. Little restaurants & subshops on same street-good food. If on a budget in Plaza Catalunya is a supermarket.If going on a cruise, they called you a taxi.Barcelona a city not to be missed if going on a cruise.

The room was very clean but small. Nice and quiet for sleeping although it's very close to Las Rambalas. I would stay there again. We had an excellent breakfast included in the price.

Very good Barcelona location and service but they do not tell you in the hotels.com web page that ALL rooms are smoking rooms. Thus if you are smoke adverse then I strongly advise you against staying at this hotel. They even allow smoking in the common areas

Barcelona is fantastic and the hotel is bang in the middle of it. You can get there by bus for 4 euros from the airport and all the tour buses go from the doorstep. The hotel is easy to find, clean, the rooms are fine as long as you don't have any cats to swing. Linen canged daily, only gripe sachets instead of bottles for freebies but at least they are not stuck on the wall. When out in Barcelona especially on La Rambla keep your eyes open, there are loads of distractions and things to see which means loads of pick pockets

At the top of Las Ramblas on a quiet side street only steps away from the action. Only 1 block from the Plaza and hop-on hop-off buses. Staff very helpful. Would stay here again.

Great location! Quite a few nice coffee shops for breakfast across the street. Only 5 minutes walk to the bus stop for the airport.

The staff was very friendly. The only problem was that my room smell of fresh paint. I had to keep the windows open at night. The room was small but well kept and clean. The location was great, steps away from Las Ramblas. One problem is that you can hear people in the other rooms (very thin walls). However, I didn't spent much time inside so didn't care much. Overall, I enjoyed my stayed there.

Great location right in the action. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Room was chilly and we were not able to turn up heat. You had to ask at the front desk. Beds were a little hard. Triple room was large, but saw single room and they were pretty small.

The hotel is easily accessed by aerobus, metro & taxi. It is at the top of La ramblas. The hotel receptionist was charming and helpful. Suitcases could be taken to a baggage store if arriving before 2pm. The rooms are furnished with modern TV's, bathroom furnishings and power shower.We were very pleased to be allowed to use the hotel lobby facilities for wine tasting - drinking quality Rioja purchased from the local super market.

Hotel is located just off the top of La Rambla...couldn't believe how close yet quiter than if it was on La Rambla itself. Very close to the underground. Our room was on the 4th floor, spacious enough, big telly. Bathroom had a jaccuzzi corner bath (and it was working:)) Restaurant was a bit overpriced so would recommend to eat out... plenty of places around. Overall really good location, would go and stayed in this hotel if back to Barcelona.

The exterior of the hotel and the balconies are beautiful - right at the top of the Barri Gotico off La Rambla and a short walk to the old part of the Barrio. The Hotel was clean and interior was nicely decorated with new fixtures and bidet and stuff. Drawbacks are the bed is hard like sheetrock and there was a deposit for the TV, but what are you staying in the room for?? Also, the breakfast was good but I felt it could be better for the price, but it was sufficient to fuel your walk to the Sagrada Familia.

This hotel was perfectly located for walking around Barcelona. Room was quiet and comfortable. The air conditioner wasn't working and they had someone come fix it right away. Continental breakfast was nice. My husband and I enjoyed our stay here.

Hotel Nouvel was receommed by on of my co-workers. It was everything she said it would be and the location was great for a first time visitor to Barcelona. But the staff at the front desk especially Roberto (day manager) he really made our trip wonderful with his suggestions and his friendly personality. We are considering visiting again and Hotel Nouvel would be our only place to stay!

The hotel was great and the location was great. The beds are very hard! But the room are a good size and comfortable. The location could not be too much better. Close to the main square and within walking distance of beaches, the produce markets, and Las Romblas. Easy to get to via Metro and the fact that there are no cars allowed on the streets adjacent makes the hotel quiet. The front desk staff made all the difference. They made great recommendations and were always very friendly. One of the staff speaks 4 languages and is very patient. A good travelers hotel.

We'd reserved a twin bed room and were first given a small double. We queried this and were given what we had originally asked for. The cold buffet breakfast was excellent but the cooked food was limited. We did not have an evening meal at the hotel because there are so many restaurants nearby. Staff were very helpful. Would return.

Clean, accessible hotel. Staff seemed keen to push guided trips rather than help us to plan our own with their local knowledge. not a great breakfast but adequate. all in all a very pleasurable stay

This was a clean, well managed hotel in a very convenient location off Las Ramblas. The staff was helpful, the breakfast was a typical European spread, and the hotel itself was a charming old building that had been relatively well maintained.

Location was perfect - just yards from Las Ramblas, and Plaza de Catalunya. Staff fine, and very helpful. Hotel was an attractive old building with lots of period features.But it had seen better days. Nothing especially wrong with anything, it just needs some money spending on it and a bit of a makeover.

This location is excellent, everything you need is near. The metro station is only a minute away, in my case to go to Barcelona Sants (Train Station to go back to Madrid). The people at this hotel were friendly and very helpful when we needed them. Great shower and breakfast buffet!!

The staff was great but the hotel it self does need some updating they are in the process of doing some improvements in the lobby but the rooms need it too. The deposit on the remote control for the tv was surprising overall a place to sleep & shower it will do

This hotel is in a convenient area, that's about all I can say. The manager is very rude & condescending, however the girl who works there was very nice and helpful. The room we got was about the size of a closet. In general the rooms in Europe are smaller, but this was ridiculous.

The hotel was clean, convenient to the local sights, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very generous. Other family members stayed at a hotel nearby for less money (I don't remember the name) and it had a beautiful lobby and larger, "classier" rooms. But, we were only in the room to sleep and it was more than sufficient for that.
